He spoke of seeking escape from the hardships of a dysfunctional life through drugs. He described how the feeling of joy took away all that was bad—but then the downer made it worse, so he had to get a fix. This desperation drove him to crime. He needed to feel better at any cost.

Then prison. Juvenile prison.

Our visit to Lewenskruispaaie showed us the lows that life can dish out. The absolute desperation turned around by kindness and love.
