Approval from God? A loved one? A superior? A peer, or even someone who reports to you?
It’s a question I’ve been sitting with lately. Do we all search for acceptance in different ways, in different places? And more importantly, are we doing this without even realising it?
Maybe you’re waiting for something… but what if you don’t even recognise it when it finally arrives?
Psychologist Abraham Maslow speaks of self-actualisation, that highest level of personal growth and fulfilment. But is that truly the only place where happiness lives?
Often, our happiness is shaped — and sometimes shattered — by signals that aren’t even real. Think about it:
•Social media
•Workplace dynamics
•Family expectations
•Friendships shaped by subtle comparisons
How often do you get that quiet, nagging “less than” feeling?
What triggered it?
I’ve come to believe that much of this comes down to assumptions — assumptions we make without even realising it. And when those assumptions go unchallenged, they give rise to that unhelpful inner voice. The one that whispers doubt, fear, and inadequacy. The one that sends us spiraling.
But here’s the truth: you don’t have to believe the noise.
We all have the power to reframe that narrative.
We all have the power to choose strength over fear.
We all have the power to stop waiting for external validation — and start living from within.
Use that power.
Be strong.
